Chien, like all Pandaren Brewmasters set out into the world from the hometown of Pandaria, armed with nothing but a solid spear, the clothes on his back and a barrel of beer under his arm. A Brewmaster’s goal in life is but a singular objective; to brew a beer that is the uttermost triumph in their lifetime, as well as to share friendship with all living beings that would accept them in their midst.

For years he journeyed into the wilds, cities and towns, often sharing drink and friendship with other races, including two other Pandaren whom he saw from his homeland, Mei and Tane. His wanderings took him roughly all across Kalimdor on foot with an odd visit or two to the human and dwarven lands of Ironforge and Stormwind, Chien enjoying the scenery as he wandered the land.

His journey lead him across the wilds of Ashenvale and north through the corrupted Felwood before he found himself in Moonglade, the home of the Druids. Impressed by the unity the Horde and Alliance Druids showed each other, he settled down for a little bit to learn their secrets, and to trade ale and good stories.

Chien learned the powers of the druid, able to shape shift from his original Pandaren form into the mighty Dire Bear, the stealthy Lion, the quick Cheetah and eventually the mystical Moonkin. Spells that called upon the earth, so similar to the Shaman of his people were learned, although Chien, like all Pandaren, rarely lift a finger in battle. Yet, he continued to learn, often taking a wyvern or a hippogryph to Darnassus or Thunder Bluff to listen to the lore of the Elves or the divinations of the Tauren Elders. Like all Pandaren however, he keeps a steady practice of his martial arts, arts capable of high flying movement and daring stunts of all types that would be normally impossible save for the most advanced trained non-Pandaren.

Months passed, the longest Chien had spent in any place, but when the call went out that the Dark Portal was opened, he felt a sense of renewed purpose. Taking up his things again, he bid his friends farewell and journeyed to the Eastern Kingdoms, through Ironforge and Stormwind and down south towards the Dark Portal, where upon he stepped through into the wilds of the untamed land of Ruined Draenor, otherwise known as Outland.

Through Outland Chien went, gathering things he would need to perfect his brew. Various plants went into the brew, but he couldn’t seem to reach it even after arriving at the sanctuary of Shattrath City, home of the remaining Draenei and the Naaru.

Then, one day after speaking with a broken called Tobias the Filth Gorger, the broken told him of a ruined land, the staging point of Illidan Stormage’s seat of power. Intrigued by the tale, he set off through Terokkar, eventually arriving in Shadowmoon Valley, the original place where Gul’dan himself ripped apart the world.

It was here that he found the vital ingredient to his brews success, the Nightmare Vine plant. Although toxic to the picker and even more dangerous when distilled, it created the powerful effect that Chien desired of his drink. The power of the drink could multiply a person’s strength ten-fold for a short period of time, or backfire and have them running for the nearest outhouse.

Satisfied with his explosive combination of drink and risk, Chien set out to return home, only to be pulled into the digital world.
